Gonzalez’s Beloved Flower Shop Shares Its Heart and History

In GonzalezNorthwest Florida, a flower shop has been the go-to place for Valentine’s Day and other special occasions for over a century.

Grandview Florist, run by Carolyn Brewton, is more than any flower shop. It is a place filled with history, heart, and flowers, started by Carolyn’s grandmother 102 years ago.

Valentine’s Day Tips from a Floral Expert

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, Carolyn Brewton, who has worked in the flower shop since she was 4, shares some advice on choosing the right roses.

If you are considering getting roses for someone special, like a teacher, consider salmon-coloured ones, as they symbolize desire.

Yellow roses, suggesting friendship and happiness, could be a better choice.

Despite the traditions around rose colours, Carolyn prefers pink roses and believes in choosing flowers you like, echoing the idea that a rose’s beauty goes beyond its colour.

The Busiest Day of the Year

For Carolyn and Grandview Florist, Valentine’s Day is the busiest time of the year, even more so than Mother’s Day.

She highlights the importance of ordering flowers early to avoid disappointment.

The shop has witnessed many last-minute requests and knows the power of flowers to make amends and bring joy.

A Story of Love, Flowers, and Family

Carolyn’s life has been intertwined with flowers, from working in the family’s flower fields as a child to running the shop today.

However, interestingly, she never received flowers from her husband, Charles “Wayne” Brewton, as they always surrounded her. Instead, she cherished other gestures of love.

Her family’s legacy, from her grandmother Elizabeth Krebs starting the shop in 1922 to its move to its current location over 60 years ago, is a testament to their dedication to the community and the floral industry.

Looking to the Future

As Carolyn reflects on Grandview Florist’s future, she acknowledges that one day, she might retire, but the shop’s name and legacy will always hold a special place in the community.

The shop’s story, from its humble beginnings to its centennial celebration, reminds us of the enduring power of tradition and the simple joys that flowers can bring into our lives.

In conclusion, Grandview Florist and Carolyn Brewton offer more than just flowers for Valentine’s Day; they provide wisdom, tradition, and a reminder of the importance of choosing with your heart.

Remember Carolyn’s simple yet profound advice as we celebrate love and friendship: “Buy what you like.” After all, a rose’s true beauty is in its happiness.
